Overview
The Oil Coalescer (Oil Separator) is designed based on the principle of filtration–coalescence-separation. It utilizes multiple layers of micro-glass fiber filter media to capture oil particles in the air stream (≥0.1 μm). These fine oil droplets collide and coalesce within the filter layers into larger droplets, while the gas phase passes through the media, achieving effective oil–air separation.
The separated oil is then guided by gravity to the bottom reservoir and returned via an oil recovery system back into the compressor lubrication circuit for reuse. The oil mist separator is effective in removing oil particles in the range of 0.1μm to 50μm.
Feature
• Multi-layered glass-fiber filtration media for maximum interception efficiency.
• Folded corrugated design for a large contact area and extended service life.
• Multiple oil condensation and guiding structures to achieve downstream residual oil levels below 3mg/m3.
• Dual-stage filter element design with optional oil-free configuration down to 0.1 mg/m3.
• Use of high-temperature resistant materials to achieve a maximum operating temperature of 120°C.
• High-strength structural support to achieve a maximum pressure drop of 75 psid.
Selection
Oil Coalescer can be designed in vertical, horizontal, or tank type configurations, with flow directions customized as either inside-to-outside or outside-to-inside according to application requirements. They are suitable for screw compressors and rotary vane compressors in lubrication systems, both mineral oils and synthetic oils are applicable.
Design considerations must account for required flow rate and velocity to ensure effective separation under low flow resistance conditions. Therefore, low pressure drop is a critical parameter affecting both service life and energy efficiency.
Hydrophobic micro glass-fiber media enhances coalescence by promoting the aggregation of fine oil particles into larger droplets, thereby improving separation efficiency. A single-stage Oil Coalescer can achieve a residual oil content of approximately 1–3 mg/m3. With a second-stage fine separation unit, the residual oil content can be further reduced to as low as 0.1mg/m3.
Advantage
The PureMax Oil Coalescer is engineered according to the characteristics of different oils, using the maximum upstream oil concentration as the design basis. It is equipped with sufficient filtration area and optimized layer thickness, while minimizing pressure drop to achieve efficient oil–air separation, gas purification, and oil recovery for reuse.
Correct system design requires not only proper inlet filtration but also the use of compressor-specific lubricating oil. Under normal operating conditions, the Oil Coalescer improves compressor efficiency, ensures compressed air quality, and protects downstream equipment and processes from contamination.
